Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy today emceed the New York Metropolitan Transit Council’s Regional Commuter Choice Awards, honoring employers who do the most to reduce vehicle emissions by participating in rideshare programs.
Levy honored seven local companies for participating in the county’s rideshare program, which organizes carpools.
They are:
Broadridge Financial
Computer Associates
Empire BlueCross BlueShield
Air Techniques
Clearvision Optical
Calico Cottage
Suffolk County
From the statement:
In three years, Suffolk County’s rideshare program has saved approximately 211,000 miles and 12,500 vehicle trips – reducing CO2 emissions by 92 tons. Suffolk is also being recognized for “greening” its diesel bus fleet, retrofitting units to burn cleaner with fewer emissions, replacing older models with new cleaner buses and purchasing four hybrid/electric buses that reduce fuel consumption by 25 percent.
