Weitzman goes paperless

May 12, 2008 by Michael H. Samuels

Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman announced today that he has joined the green brigade by completing the county’s first paperless audit.

By using the software program “TeamMate,” the audit of the county’s purchasing department’s time and leave system eliminates the need to compile cumbersome binders and reduces the waste of up to 65 pounds of paper per audit.

Weitzman claims that previous audits could often use up to 60 pounds of paper in binders that needed to stored in warehouses for years. The new program produces almost no paper and stores all information electronically. Weitzman plans on converting all audits to the paperless system by the end of the year.

“Paperless audits represent not only a major step in efficiency for our auditors, but also for the environment, as this office now saves reams of paper on each audit” Weitzman said in a statement. “The new paperless system also means easier storage and retrieval of information and reduced expense.”
