200,000 people will attend October 18-19

April 2, 2008 by Ambrose Clancy

oyster.jpgWhat is the 25th annual Long Island Oyster Festival, Alex.

That is correct. This Thursday, the Oyster Bay bi-valve blowout, which draws enormous crowds every year, will be a fact answered by a question on Jeopardy, within the topic, “Annual Events.”

Need to shuck? Get your mind out of the gutter and consider entering the shucking contest come October. Or take on the Garden City Glutton in the oyster-eating contest. And for those with more genteel tastes, there will be tons of arts and crafts on display and a food court that will provide treats other than the digestive systems of shell fish. Also on hand will be pirates roaming the grounds in full buccaneer drag.

The Festival, held at the waterfront in Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park, is produced by the Oyster Bay Rotary club and helps support more than 30 Island not-for-profit organizations.

So tune in Thursday and shout out the question, amazing family and friends with your brilliance. Or reveal yourself as a person with way too much time on your hands.
