Media obsessed with housewife

Two months ago, when we discovered gossip maven Vera Sweeney, running her Web site I’m Not Obsessed out of her Garden City home while tending two kids, she promptly posted the news on her site saying something on the order that, well, it wasn’t The New York Times but at least she’d scored some ink.

We had fun doing the story on Vera and her bright, sharply written and attractive site. When we gently joshed her in an e-mail to I’m Not Obsessed that we didn’t like being compared to The Times, she graciously apologized and removed the comparison of the Good Gray Lady with us.

Since we spread the word of her obsession, others — not The Times, but it’s only a matter of time — have been beating a path to our Vera’s door. Newsday weighed in Wednesday and now WCBS in New York has a profile of the dish-blogging housewife.

Since our feature story Feb. 1, Vera has attracted 500,000 more hits per month, with six million viewings coming her way, she says. She also has taken on employees to keep up with the traffic.
