Owls? Or racing enthusiasts in disguise?

The racing crowd, which has been hooting and hollering about a plan to build an indoor ski mountain at Enterprise Park at Calverton rather than a race track, apparently has a few friends in high places.
According to an Associated Press story, the The State Department of Environmental Conservation found a group of short-eared owls, which are an endangered species.
They are only occasionally spotted on Long Island, and Riverhead Town Supervisor Phil Cardinale wants proof they actually live at EPCAL.
From the story:
DEC spokeswoman Maureen Wren says the birds’ presence will probably mean an environmental review and might require an endangered species permit for Riverhead Town’s plans for the property.
Town Supervisor Phil Cardinale is calling for proof that the owls weren’t just stopping by.
Environmentalists and state officials have been tussling with the town over the plans for the 2,900-acre property.

Maureen “Wren”, commenting on owls. Pretty ironic!
I’m sure these “owls” will not really want a race track either … kind of loud, plus, the owls aren’t really into competition — they are loners really…
I have a 2 yr old photo of the Owl that clearly shows it at the EPCAL site.
Where do I send it?
Do we compare it with any oter siteings?
If they were there whan the F-14 were flying every day I would say the Race cars a few times a week would not be bad.
Just curious if anyone has pictures of Dick Amper sneaking onto the property under cover of darkness and releasing his pet owl form its cage. Now stop that…I’m just kidding.

Powderly II The pending construction of a multi-themed resort and giant indoor ski mountain on Riverhead’s EPCAL property has seen its share of opposition from environmentalists, enmity from the racing community and a few acts of civil disobedience by some short-eared owls.
