Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota’s latest sting, aimed at a local car-theft, has led to 22 arrests and has unearthed all sorts of bad business including one suspect, a local mechanic, who allegedly copied customers’ keys so he could steal their cars later.

A Long Island car-theft sting has led to 22 arrests - including a drug addict accused of stealing his grandfather’s car while his grandmother’s wheelchair was still in the trunk.
Another suspect, a mechanic, is accused of copying customers’ keys so he could steal their cars.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said Tuesday that 15 more people are still being sought as a result of the 16-month sting.
The suspects also included people trying to make false insurance claims.
The DA said that since August 2006, 92 vehicles worth more than $1.1 million have been recovered.
Eleven defendants have been convicted and sentenced to as much as nine years in prison. The others are still going through the courts.
