Richie’s next job

October 10, 2007 by David Reich-Hale

daveandrichie.jpgThe first person we saw upon walking into the Islanders Business Club get together tonight?

None other than Richard Kessel, who was talking to Islanders great Mike Bossy. He was asking for a job.

As you probably know, Kessel’s days as the head of Long Island Power Authority are coming to an end, so he’s preparing for the next phase in his life. In all seriousness, we asked Kessel what he planned on doing next and he said “I’m not ready to talk about that yet.”

He then went on to talk about it – sort of. He said he wants to coach the Knicks.

“That’s the job I want,” Kessel boasted. “I can do that job.”

Kessel said he used to sleep outside the Garden to get playoff tickets. Perhaps if Kessel takes over the moribund Knicks, he can bring them back to the promised land.

We will have more from the Nassau Coliseum later tonight and tomorrow morning. We spoke to Chris Dey, a senior vice president for the Islanders about the team’s role in the LI business community and we chatted with Isles greats Bobby Nystrom and Bossy. We’ll share it all.

Say what you want about Kessel, that guy gets around. All CEO types should be out and about like he is.
